  7. Buddah Eden Garden

A monumental refuge in the heart of Bacalhôa Buddha Eden

Accept our invitation and come visit Quinta dos Loridos, where you will find the largest oriental garden in Europe, the impressive Bacalhôa Buddha Eden.

With around 35 hectares, the garden was created in protest against the destruction of the Giant Buddhas of Bamyan, in what was one of the greatest acts of cultural barbarism, erasing masterpieces of the late period of Gandhara Art from memory.

Among buddhas, pagodas, terracotta statues, and various sculptures carefully placed among the vegetation, it is estimated that more than 6 thousand tons of marble and granite were used to build this monumental work. The central staircase is the focal point of the garden, where the golden Buddhas calmly welcome visitors.

In the central lake, it is possible to observe the KOI fish and sculpted dragons rising from the water. You will also have the opportunity to observe the around 600 hand-painted terracotta soldiers, each one unique, with some being buried, just like 2,200 years ago.

The Modern and Contemporary Sculpture garden provides a peaceful space in nature to appreciate modern art. Selected pieces from the Berardo Collection, such as by Joana Vasconcelos, Alexander Calder, Fernando Botero, Tony Cragg, Lynn Chadwick, Allen Jones, and many others, are arranged in the garden surrounded by diverse plants.
This open-air gallery features works that are regularly replaced, providing the visitor with new and interesting experiences with each visit.
The African Sculpture art garden is dedicated to the Shona people of Zimbabwe, who have been carving stone by hand into works of art for over a thousand years. The Shona people believe in ancestral spirits known as "Vadzimu." Their sculptures demonstrate the union between these two worlds, the physical and the spiritual. These incredible stone sculptors maintain the belief that every stone has a living spirit, which influences what it will become. The artist's job is to "free the spirit of the stone." There are more than 200 sculptures arranged under the shade of 1000 palm trees.

Come and discover a unique place of peace and tranquility that will surprise you.
