Located about 15 km from CASASUPERTUBOS\u00ae you will find the Castle of \u00d3bidos.<\/strong><\/em> This Roman settlement may be over 3,000 years old today. The area was conquered from the Moors by the first king of Portugal, King Afonso Henriques, in 1148. In 1210, King Afonso II gave the title of this village to Queen Urraca. Since then, \u00d3bidos was often frequented by the Queens of Portugal, giving rise to its informal title as the Town of the Queens; several royal marriages enriched the village with donations from the Middle Ages until the 16th century.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00d3bidos is a charming fortified town north of Lisbon.<\/strong><\/em> This small town sits on top of a hill and is completely surrounded by an impenetrable wall, while inside it is a labyrinth of narrow streets and traditionally painted houses.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is a special place, the classic Portuguese town with cobblestone streets and several small churches in the shade of high walls. From these walls, visitors can walk the perimeter of the town, with views over the surrounding plains that lead to the coastline or over the town with its immaculate white of whitewashed houses and imposing fortress.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
